Solar Design Engineer

The ideal candidate will successfully prepare utility, permit, construction, and as-built drawing sets for residential solar systems using AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel. This will require interaction with multiple departments, including sales, operations, and construction management as well as 3rd party designers and 3rd party professional engineers. As such, this is an in-person position at our office in Carnegie, PA – working remotely is not an option.
Minimum Qualifications
· Batchelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
· 0 – 2 years experience in solar design or related field
· Working knowledge of the currently adopted National Electrical Code and International Building Codes
· Ability to read, understand, and follow local discretionary zoning and permitting rules, requirements, setbacks, and limitations
· Proficiency with AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), and PDF editing software
· Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills and the ability to multitask
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Ability to travel to project sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work in variable weather conditions as necessary to support engineering design
Preferred Qualifications
· Minimum of 5 years Solar design experience (residential, commercial, or off-grid)
· Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Helioscope, and solar equipment manufacturer design tools
· Experience with distributed energy resource (DER) integration into the electric utility grid
Main responsibilities
- Design residential and commercial solar PV systems
- Create permit plan-sets and construction drawings in AutoCAD
- Speak with AHJs and Inspectors as needed to make sure permits are processed without issues
- Provide technical guidance to field crew and sales teams for optimal solar design
- Receive feedback from field crew and sales team and adjust on revisions or as-built drawings
- Product research
- Tier-1 technical support for clients, field crew, and office staff, as needed
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
