Each year on October 11th, National Coming Out Day is a day of celebration and empowerment for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies. It encourages individuals to share their authentic selves with others which is not always safe or easy, and it is not just a one-day event. But, when possible, it can be very freeing and life changing in breaking down barriers and stereotypes that the LGBTQ+ community continues to face. Mike Sebring, SVP, Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Citizens, over time has embraced his own identity and is proud to be a role model for others and helps to foster an environment where everyone feels safe, accepted, and empowered. "For me, it took 32 years to bring my authentic self to work," he says, "And now, I love being out, I love expressing who I am. I want to be a role model for others to do the same. My hope for the future is that we can continue to love who we love, to be able to express ourselves and enjoy those around us, and to be our authentic selves whenever we choose."
As we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we are proud to announce Citizens has been awarded the National Organization on Disability (NOD) Leading Disability Employer Seal™ in recognition of our exemplary employment practices for individuals with disabilities. In its ninth year, the NOD Leading Disability Employer Seal serves as a platform to spotlight the transformative contributions made by business leaders in promoting equal employment for individuals with disabilities. The seal is presented to top performing companies who complete the NOD Disability Employment Tracker™, a dashboard that ranks organizations in key disability inclusion areas, including Climate & Culture, People Practices, Talent Sourcing, Workplace & Technology and Strategy & Metrics. “As we continue fostering an environment where everyone feels comfortable bringing their whole selves to work, we are proud to be recognized by NOD as a leading disability employer,” said Mike Sebring, head of DE&I. “As a cancer survivor, I am proud to be part of the disability community where I have personally experienced a culture of caring at Citizens and can share my story while supporting others.”
Each year, we celebrate our colleagues — as well as our customers, communities and shareholders — during Credo Week. It’s an opportunity to take a moment and recognize the incredible workforce that has helped us grow into the leading financial institution we are today. It’s also an occasion for colleagues to take time out of their days with some well-deserved fun and entertainment.
