This week, we celebrate, honor, and reflect on the gravity of Juneteenth also known as “Freedom Day.” African Americans have celebrated the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States since the late 1800s. There has thankfully been a renewed appreciation and interest in Juneteenth as we celebrate freedom and the power of inclusion and allyship. It is our stories and experiences that shape us and help guide our future. Just as we encourage colleagues to celebrate Juneteenth, we also use this time to engage in thoughtful reflection to uplift and share personal stories from our African American colleagues.

We're working to #BreakTheStigma surrounding mental health in veterans through our partnership with the Military Warriors Support Foundation. 30% of active duty and reserve military personnel have a mental health condition requiring treatment — that's a staggering number. For our internal veteran colleagues, we offer a Business Resource Group that enables them to put their unique experiences and abilities to work — and we’re over 580 members strong! We’ve also partnered with the MWSF and created the Citizens' Hero Homecoming program, which helps veterans with PTSD and other mental health conditions find homes, get support, and become financially stable. “This week marks the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, a shocking incident that raised awareness of the inequities facing people of color and galvanized support for dramatic change. It’s clear that solutions will be complex and will take time, and it is important that society maintains its focus and resolve. Embracing diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) makes us stronger, and able to deliver the promise of our credo to the benefit of all we serve. - our CEO, Bruce Van Saun
